Keep the National Football Museum in Preston

Councillor Mark Jewell is putting forward a Notice of Motion to keep the National Football Museum in Preston.

This follows suggestions by the Chair of the Football League, former Tory minister, Lord Brian Mawhinney, that the National Football Museum should be moved from Preston to Wembley.

Councillor Mark Jewell said, " When the Chairman of the Football League says something like this within a parliamentary group then you have to take it seriously. Unfortunately, his comments fail to recognise the rich history of professional association football with its roots in Preston.

Preston was one of 12 teams who were the founding members of the professional football league. Amongst the reasons why the National Football Museum is in Preston and should remain so is that Preston is the only club of the founding members who have played continuously at the same ground for over a century. With a team of invincibles it also won the double in the first year. Preston really is the natural home for football and the National Football Museum should remain here.

When walking around the museum you will find that Wembley does not even feature until half way through the first half!
