At the General Election in Preston on 5th May 2005, 34081 votes were cast (approximately 54% of the total number of eligible voters) with the following result:

Mark Hendrick (Labour): 17210 votes (-6.5%).

Fiona Bryce (Conservative): 7803 votes (-0.1%).

William Parkinson (Liberal Democrat): 5701 votes (+3.5%).

Michael Lavalette (Respect - The Unity Coalition): 2318 votes (+6.8%).
